KPI dashboard software for manufacturing, compared.
At 7:00 the Q on the board is red. The question is not whether the dashboard shows it; every tool on this page does. It is where the number came from, who owns the red, and whether anyone can find the countermeasure next week. The tools differ most in exactly that, and in whether you can see the price.
Below: when a spreadsheet is still enough, ten criteria with the question to ask each vendor, nine tools compared from their own public pages, from machine OEE devices to BI, and where TeamGuru fits and where it does not. We make TeamGuru, so read our row with that in mind.
Is a spreadsheet still enough?
A spreadsheet is enough when
- One area, a handful of KPIs, and one person who updates them every morning.
- The board is read at the line, and nobody above the area asks for a roll-up.
- A red number gets discussed at the board, and the follow-up fits on a whiteboard.
Software pays off when
- Several areas or sites report the same KPIs, and someone merges files before every review.
- A red KPI should start an action with an owner, and you cannot see which ones are still open.
- Tier 2 and the plant manager need the same numbers as the line, without a separate report.
Either way, decide the KPIs before the tool. The manufacturing KPIs guide defines 32 KPIs with formulas and a free Excel list, and the SQDIP guide covers the daily board. Our free SQDIP board template runs in the browser or in Excel.
Ten criteria, and the question to ask
Ask every vendor to load three of your real KPIs in the demo and turn one red, then show you what happens next.
-
Where the numbers come from
Typed at the board, imported from a spreadsheet, pulled from ERP or MES, or read from the machine. Each tool is strong at one of these and weak at others.
Ask: Show me how a value gets in: by hand, by file, through an API, from the machine.
-
Targets and color rules you control
A KPI needs a target, a direction and a rule for red, yellow and green. Ask whether you can set a tolerance and which target the color compares against.
Ask: Can I set a target, a tolerance band and whether higher or lower is better, per KPI?
-
Roll-up from line to plant to company
The plant manager wants the same KPI for the site without adding up area files. Ratios like OEE need more care than sums.
Ask: How does a line KPI roll up to the plant, and how are ratios such as OEE combined?
-
What happens when a KPI turns red
A color that changes and nothing else is reporting. The tool should take you from the red number to an action with an owner and a date, and to a root cause when it repeats.
Ask: When this KPI goes red, what do I click, and where do the action and the root cause live?
-
The board for the daily meeting
KPIs are read at the tier 1 board every morning. Check for SQDIP or SQCDP layouts, a TV display and open actions next to the letters.
Ask: Can I run tomorrow's tier 1 meeting from this board, on the TV at the line?
-
A line up to strategy
A KPI that matters on the floor should trace to an objective the plant committed to. If strategy lives in slides, the board never sees it.
Ask: Which objective does this KPI belong to, and can I see that from the board?
-
Machine data, if you need it
OEE and downtime are most honest when they come from the machine. Not every plant needs that on day one, and not every tool offers it.
Ask: Do you connect to machines yourselves, or do we need a separate system for that?
-
Who builds and maintains it
A blank BI or no-code platform can do anything, once someone builds it. A ready-made tool is faster to start and less flexible.
Ask: Who sets up the dashboards and rules, and who changes them when the plant changes?
-
The languages of your plants
Operators read the board in their language, or not at all.
Ask: Which interface languages are included, and at what cost?
-
A price you can plan
Prices are per user, per room, per facility, per interface or per line. Ask for the total for your sites and users, not the unit price.
Ask: What does it cost for all our lines and users in year one, including setup?

TeamGuru
Best for: Plants that want the KPI, the tier meeting, the action and the root cause in one system, tied to the strategy.
Know before you buy: No connection to machines and no native ERP or MES connector: data comes by API, file or hand. No alert when a KPI crosses its limit; the color changes and the meeting acts.

Power BI (build it yourself)
Best for: Plants with a BI team that wants full control over data and visuals, often already licensed.

Tervene
Best for: Plants whose priority is the meeting and routine layer, with KPIs coming from an existing BI tool.
Know before you buy: The KPI layer is thin: dashboards are embedded from BI tools rather than built in.
Sources: Platform · Daily management
Tulip
Best for: Plants that want machine data and are ready to build their own apps and dashboards.
Know before you buy: A build-it platform; machine monitoring is a paid add-on.

Where TeamGuru fits, and where it does not
TeamGuru treats a KPI as the start of a chain, not the end of a report: the metric, the board it is read at, the action and root cause when it turns red, and the objective on the X-Matrix it belongs to. It is the right choice when that chain is what you are missing, not when you need machine monitoring.
What it does
- Every value carries actual, plan, forecast and optionally a stretch goal; colors follow your rules: a target, a tolerance band or statistical limits.
- Daily and weekly values roll up into months and fiscal calendars, and summary metrics roll a KPI up from team to plant to company.
- The SQDIP board in Reports shows your letters, trends, days without a miss, open actions and a Pareto of problems, on the TV at the line.
- From a red metric you start a root cause analysis or an 8D; its actions get owners and dates and stay visible until they are done.
- Tier meetings run in the same system, with a standard agenda, attendance and their own action list.
- Targets on the X-Matrix read their metric, so the strategy shows red the same month the floor does.
- Values come in by hand, pasted from Excel, as a CSV import or through the API, in 16 interface languages.
What it does not do
- No connection to machines: OEE inputs come from your systems, a file or the board.
- No native ERP or MES connector: the API and file imports do that job.
- No alert when a KPI crosses its limit; the color changes and the next meeting acts on it.
Metric dashboards, reports, meetings, actions, root cause analysis and strategy deployment come with every plan; the Group plan starts at $350 a month, billed annually. See KPI management, reporting and root cause analysis, or book a demo on your own KPIs from any page.
How we compared
We picked the tools that come up when plants search for manufacturing KPI dashboard software, from machine OEE devices to BI and lean daily management tools, read each vendor's own product, pricing and help pages on October 30, 2026, and wrote down only what those pages say. We left out review-site ratings, because we could not read them reliably. If something has changed, or we got your product wrong, write to info@teamguru.com and we will correct it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best KPI dashboard software for manufacturing?
It depends on where your numbers come from and what should happen when they turn red. For machine OEE, a device like Vorne XL or a platform like Tulip. For a BI team that builds its own, Power BI. For KPIs on frontline boards with many systems behind them, Poka. For a ready-made KPI and huddle loop, TheLeanSuite or Data Point. For KPIs tied to tier meetings, root cause analysis and the X-Matrix in one system, TeamGuru.
Should we build our KPI dashboards in Power BI?
If you have people to build and maintain them, Power BI is cheap per user and connects to almost anything. What it does not give you is the daily meeting, the action with an owner and the follow-up when a KPI is red. Many plants keep Power BI for analysis and run the daily board in a daily management tool.
Do we need machine connectivity for KPI dashboards?
Not to start. Safety, quality, delivery and people KPIs are mostly counted, not measured by machines. OEE and downtime are where machine data pays off, through a device or a monitoring platform. Ask each vendor whether it connects to machines itself or expects the data from another system.
How much does KPI dashboard software cost?
The pricing models differ: Power BI from $14 per user a month, iObeya €3,780 per room a year, Tulip from $100 per interface a month with a 10-interface minimum, TheLeanSuite from $499 a month for one facility, Vorne XL $4,490 to $4,990 per device, and TeamGuru from $350 a month, billed annually. The others are quote only. Checked on October 30, 2026.
