The Importance of Self-Education

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” – Anthony J. D’Angelo

Self-Learning and Discovering

Life happens! How many times have you heard these words before or how many times you’ve actually used them yourself?  Most of us probably fell into the trap of the daily routine, at least for some period of time. As much as the familiarity is comfortable, it is also a self-destructive and non-motivating way to spend your existence. The moment we stop learning is the moment we betray ourselves and stop taking care of our mind and soul. Education, learning, practicing are the main keys to gain knowledge, respect that leads to success and happiness.

Self-Learning is your ability to expand your mind. How and to what extend is entirely up to you! Nobody can take away what you have already learned. That’s a beauty of it!

Have you ever thought - “thinking hurts”? Well, you might not be that far from the truth. If you go running without proper training, you will be sore and achy. Our brain is muscle that needs to be exercised too; otherwise like any muscle in our body, it would slowly deteriorate. One study shows that brain may begin to lose sharpness or memory and powers of reason and understanding as early as 45, according to an article in The Guardian.

Brain needs stimulation. There are so many appealing activities to choose from to support it - aerobic exercise, crosswords, reading newspapers, using other hand for daily tasks, good sleep, being in nature, talking to yourself, involving other senses in your routines, writing, playing memory games and board games, eating right, experiencing new things, learning a new language, painting, gardening, anticipating at the social events, visiting new places, learning new instrument, educational courses and so many more. Surely you can find few things you would love to do to benefit your mind.

How to steal some “me time” and indulge in a little bit of learning?

At first: Schedule a time without distractions and stay realistic to avoid being stressed out. You suppose to enjoy learning rather than resenting it.

And secondly: Learn what you WANT to learn, not just what you have to.

Engage for the sake of learning itself. Enjoy your learning experience and share it with others.

“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” Brian Herbert

“ Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets.” –Leonardo da Vinci
